ZERØ’s AI works directly on the device, with no third-party cloud processing.

Data privacy and security are fundamental concepts to ZERØ. Our technology was built with the core priorities of lawyers in mind, ensuring that we always put the security of our private user data and communications above all.

ZERØ’s core innovation at the heart of this concern is “AI in your pocket” – in essence, an algorithm that runs directly on the user’s device and never sends data for processing outside of this device. Our product keeps personal data private – we do not store information on third party servers, and the application communicates directly with email service providers and DMS services.

How does this work? The inner core of ZERØ is a data-driven AI assistant, which interacts with environments such as the user’s inbox and DMS system to turn the collected and analyzed data into productivity suggestions for the user. For the user, actions that once took many gestures and a lot of attention are simplified, automated, and completed with a couple of taps.

Exchange authentication

ZERØ synchronizes data with Exchange Server via Active Sync protocol. For authentication with the Exchange Server, ZERØ supports the following authentication methods:

Basic Authentication: By default, authentication with TLS is enabled for Exchange ActiveSync.

Certificate-Based Authentication: ZERØ supports certificate-based authentication, which prevents users who have only a username and password from synchronizing with the Exchange Server.

Security policies supported through an MDM:

ZERØ’s preferred distribution method is through a Mobile Device Management system (MDM).

MDM distribution is extremely useful in the event of loss or theft of the device. The ZERØ application and all of its stored data can be remotely wiped from the device using an MDM’s remote application wipe capabilities.

Require PIN: When this policy is configured, all ZERØ users are required to set a PIN code. There is a limit for user PIN unlock attempts. On the 10th invalid login attempt, all local data stored on the device is deleted. Administrators can set the complexity of the passcode. Once the PIN has been set, the user can also access the application using biometric authentication (Touch ID or Face ID).

Auto-lock: By default, the user is required to enter PIN every time he or she wishes to log into the app. The administrator can set the time interval, set in minutes, after which the user is able to login without re-entering the PIN.

Prevent data leakage: This policy enables administrators to enforce (via MDM configuration) restrictions on users and prevent them from exposing content. When enabled, users are not able to copy, cut, or paste data from an open screen to the clipboard. In this configuration, print screen is also disabled.

ZERØ’s architecture was designed to deliver flexibility, the highest levels of security, and ease of installation.

Because ZERØ operates inside of the device, it always remains completely within your firm’s security perimeter. No whitelisting, firewall exemptions, or other complex configurations are required, although law firms can easily adapt ZERØ to their unique security standards. Using an MDM platform, ZERØ can be set up and launched in two hours or less. And it supports all major SSO solutions for authentication.

ZERØ-to-Exchange Connection

ZERØ communicates with the MS Exchange Server via the ActiveSync protocol and supports all major MDM systems (Airwatch, MaaS360, MobileIron and others).

ZERØ-to-DMS/Billing Connection

Zero supports iManage and NetDocuments integration via the Rest API.

Notifications & Licenses Server

To manage active licenses, the ZERØ app connects to the Licensing server via the Rest API. The server stores the number of active licenses for each client. The notification server is used to support real-time notifications for new emails via APNS (Apple Push Notification Service). The server stores device tokens only — no logins, passwords, or sensitive data are stored outside of the firm’s infrastructure.

Note: Both the licenses and the notification server are optional and are available through a pay-per-use model or for on-premises deployment.
